Legacy’s Season Comes to an End
The Menlo Park Legacy played in three playoff games starting Tuesday the 16th against the California RedTails. Although they lost in the semi- finals, the Legacy battled in every game, ending their conference play on Saturday the 20th with a 15-7 record.
Unfortunately, Menlo Park started off the playoff week with a 7-6 loss that lasted 13 innings against the RedTails at the College of Alameda. The lead went back and forth between both teams in the game, however a single in the thirteenth inning gave the RedTails the lead for good. Ryan Farr led the Legacy with four hits, driving in one run. Dom Najar, Danelle Daniels, Blake Cowans, and Ethan Payne also each drove in one run for Menlo Park. 13 bases were stolen, multiple coming from Najar, Cooper Winton, and Roman Trinidad.
Archie Paul opened the game for the Legacy. The lefty allowed three hits and two runs over four innings, walking two and striking out five. Christian Klostermann pitched three innings of no run ball in relief, allowing four walks and striking out three.
The Legacy stayed alive and avoided double elimination on Wednesday evening with a 5-4 win against the San Francisco Seals. A steal at home in the first, a double from Trinidad in the second, and a solo homerun from Alex Tolbert in the third gave Menlo Park an early lead. The team amassed 13 hits, Najar, Cowans, Tolbert, and Kieran Baker each collecting two. The team’s defense was solid as the infield turned two double plays in the game.
Ben Eisenhauer stepped on the mound first, allowing eight hits and four runs over 5.2 innings, walking one and striking out four. Sean DeBoard earned the win for Menlo Park. The lefty allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, walking none and striking out two. Chris Walsh threw 1.1 innings of shutout ball for the Legacy, giving up zero hits, walking two, and striking out two.
Menlo Park ended their playoff journey on Saturday after a 9-4 loss against the RedTails in the semi-finals. Cowans went three for four at the plate to lead the team in hits, and drove in two runs. Baker homered to left in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two runs.
Jesus Munguia took the loss for Menlo Park. The righty pitcher went 7.1 innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Although the Legacy are done with conference play, the team still has a couple of non-league games left to play this week, and some played last week. The team faced the South Bay Storm at the College of San Mateo Wednesday and Friday evening. Unfortunately the Samurai did not show for the last home game tonight, but the Legacy still had a fun scrimmage amongst each other. Menlo Park will play their final two games of the season against the Humboldt Crabs at Arcata Ballpark.
