Become a Host Family
A unique and rewarding Summer experience for the whole family!
Each summer, one the most important duties of the Menlo Park Legends Baseball Organization is to find housing for Legends ballplayers, whether they are traveling nationally or internationally to join our team.
Hosting a Legend involves providing a college baseball player with lodging for two months during the summer. Playing summer baseball is key for a college athlete to develop the necessary skills he may not be able to execute during the regular season. We currently have players from all over the country that would like to join us in the Bay Area for the 2014 summer season and become part of a legendary team.
Being a Host Family for a player at this level can be a very unique and rewarding experience, especially with the strong relationship you will build over the course of two short months. Getting involved in the Legends Host Family program will be an immense contribution to our team, and will give you memories for a lifetime.
Our schedule runs from late May until early August. Last year, our schedule had 44 games not including playoffs. We played about 20 home games at Canada College and travelled out of town on multiple weekends. We had 12 overnight weekend trips in the 2013 summer. With all of this in mind, your host player will be very busy during his stay. Travel combined with a job (either employed by our Youth Camp Staff or engaged in a more suitable summer employment option) will require time management.
When he is not busy and simply hanging around the house, he will act as part of the family. He will abide by all household rules, have his own chores and will overall be an “easy child” to care for. All players paired with host families are given intense background checks, which involve discussions with college coaches, family members and the player himself. After deciding if the college athlete is a good match for your family, our Host Family Coordinator will set up a pre-season introduction over the phone, Skype or even in person!
When we have paired players with host families in the past, the best matches are dependent on the personalities and intentions of both parties. We encourage parents from our youth camps to get involved in the Host Family Program because it proves time and time again that the college athletes are great with kids and fantastic role models for aspiring young athletes.
If you would like to speak with a Legend’s Host Family from prior seasons, please reach out and we’d be happy to provide you with contact information. We will also have the Legends Host Family Brochure available next month, which will answer general FAQs and provide the necessary contact information for further inquiry.
