The Legends Conclude Summer Season

The Menlo Park Legends wrapped up their final game of the season on July 28th against the Walnut Creek Crawdads. Despite their valiant efforts over the second half of the season, the Legends could not find a victory. The squad’s scores and stats indicate they were competitive in most of their outings throughout July. Half of the games were decided by three runs or less. 

Amongst the large bullpen, several pitchers had a solid performance this summer. Richard Kiel was the workhorse of the team, starting in seven of the 10 games he pitched. Of the 43 innings the righty threw, Kiel struck out 42 batters. All-Star Michael Taylor also pitched a great season. Hurling 24.2 innings, Taylor started three of the eight games he pitched, and threw a 1.10 ERA, the lowest average on the team. 

Legends batters continued to perform after their mid-summer recognition. All-Star Hayden Jung-Goldberg was reliable at the plate all summer, batting .286 with 24 hits. Home Run Derby participant John-Paul Avila provided a big bat in the lineup, belting three home runs this season. Vascon Smith tied Avila for most on the team. 

The Legends faced their rivals the San Francisco Seagulls and Alameda Merchants the most this season. Of the eight games played, Menlo went even with the Seagulls, and overall won the seven played against the Merchants 4-3. 

With the season behind them, the players’ focus will shift to preparations for the upcoming college baseball season.
