The Menlo Park Legacy were busy playing five games this past week, the first two at the College of San Mateo and the last three away. After going 2-3 on the week, the Legacy won the BACL title, now with a 14-5 record heading into the playoffs that started yesterday evening.

To start off the eventful week, Menlo Park faced off against the California RedTails at home Tuesday evening. The eight inning game ended in a 11-1 win for the Legacy. Kyler Bittner, Ryan Farr, and Nick Thomson made things interesting on the field, each attempting to play all nine positions throughout the game. The middle infielders made plays everywhere on the diamond, and worked hard behind the plate. The lineup accumulated 13 hits in the game. Several players were hot at the plate, including doubles from Farr, Thomson, and Blake Cowans, and a triple from Bittner. Ethan Payne was also successful in the box, going 2-2 with an RBI.

Owen Swanson opened the game for Menlo Park, giving up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, walking one and striking out two. Aside from Bittner, Farr, and Thomson, Archie Paul and Ruben Rivera each threw a scoreless inning for the Legacy.

The second win of the week was on Thursday’s home game against the West Coast Kings Gold. Thomson, Payne, Stuart Cash, Roman Trinidad, and Tyler Wong each collected one hit to help the Legacy rack up several runs for a 6-3 win. Menlo Park’s fielding was solid, as the team only committed one error throughout the nine innings. In the fourth inning, Trinidad showed hard work in centerfield with an outstanding diving catch. Wong also showed off his cannon in left and gunned down a runner at home.

The starter Ryan Johnson earned the win for the Legacy, allowing five hits and three runs over five and two-thirds innings, walking six and striking out one. Christian Klostermann collected the save, and Kai Price and Chris Walsh each came on in relief, shutting down the Kings.

Unfortunately Menlo Park faced three tough losses on the road, the first on Friday against the San Francisco Seals 11-1. The second was on Saturday against the Healdsburg Prunepackers 13-6, and lastly on Sunday against the Solano Mudcats 17-3. Although they lost their first playoff game last night against the RedTails 7-6, the Legacy have another game today. The conference winners are prepared to come out strong this evening against the San Francisco Seals at the College of Alameda to avoid double elimination.
