Legacy Battle Back for First in BACL Standings
Menlo Park Legacy took home two wins from their three-game series against the Bercovich Honors this past week, and the team is now back at the top of the Bay Area Collegiate League (BACL) standings with a 9-4 record.
Menlo Park came out strong on Wednesday evening at San Ramon Valley High School and pulled out a 12-9 win. The team was aggressive in the first couple of innings with doubles coming from Blake Cowans, Roman Trinidad, Tyler Wong, and Kyler Bittner. Heading into the ninth inning, the Legacy trailed 6-8. However, Cooper Winton’s RBI double and Danelle Daniels’ inside the park home run gave the team the lead and the win.
Menlo Park Legacy put on another great performance at home on Friday, beating the Honors 11-6. Once again, the lineup had a strong day at the plate and piled up 12 hits through the course of the game. The Legacy created a big lead early in the game, scoring five runs in the first three innings thanks to RBI singles from Wong, Ethan Payne, and Nick Thompson. Dom Najar hit a sacrifice fly, and Daniels hit a solo home run to left. Another five runs were scored in the fourth by doubles from Thomson and Wong, a single from Kieran Baker, and Ryan Farr’s sacrifice fly. The Legacy were busy on the base paths, collecting eight stolen bases for the game.
The team received a solid performance from winning pitcher Jesus Munguia. He gave up just four hits and one run over five innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. Christian Klostermann came in relief and pitched an inning of no-run ball, surrendering one hit, zero walks, and two strikeouts.
The hitter of the week for Menlo Park went to Danelle Daniels, who showed power in several at bats with two homers.
Although they faced a tough loss on Sunday 11-4, the Legacy prepared to get back on their feet this week starting with an away game played earlier this evening against the Alameda Anchors. The team then heads back to College of San Mateo to face the San Francisco Seals Thursday afternoon and the West Coast Kings Black Saturday afternoon before the BACL Allstar Game on Sunday.
