Former Legend Haggett Named Academic All-American
SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team closed the book on the 2013 season in stunning fashion. Senior Brian Haggett (Hollister/West Valley College) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Baseball first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Haggett is the first Otter all-time to earn first-team honors in the Academic All-America® program. He joins softball graduate Jamie Moon (Torrance HS) in the young history of the CSUMB Athletics program to be named to an Academic All-America team. Moon was a third team pick in 2012.
“I couldn’t be more proud of Brian and his accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom,” said CSUMB Head Coach Walt White. “Brian is the ideal student-athlete and teammate.”
The award is based on academic, athletic achievement and community service, three areas in which Haggett excelled as an Otter. In the classroom, the senior kinesiology major compiled a 3.92 grade point average and will graduate in the fall of 2013. On the field, Haggett was the team leader with 43 runs while banging out 14 doubles and four home runs.
“This honor is well deserved and earned,” White said. “Our program is better because Brian chose CSUMB and I am so happy to see his dedication and efforts are being acknowledged on a national level.”
Haggett was also an active member of the Student-Athletic Advisory Committee, participating in KSBW’s 26th Annual Share Your Holiday event by collecting clothes, toys and food for the Salvation Army and numerous fundraisers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay senior first baseman Brian Haggett (Hollister/West Valley College) is one of 15 finalists nationally for the TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award.
Voting for the 2013 TD Ameritrade Fan’s Choice Award is now open, TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation and Intersport announced today. The second annual award recognizes college baseball players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others.
Haggett was CSUMB’s first Capital One Academic All-America® first team in the university’s young history. He was also a two-time all-district selection. The senior kinesiology major compiled a 3.92 grade point average and will graduate in the fall of 2013.
The Otters have won 65 games in the two seasons with Haggett, resetting the school record with 39 in 2013, winning the conference regular season championship and making their first appearance in the CCAA Tournament and NCAA West Region Tournament.
Haggett hit .327 this season with a team-high 43 runs, also tallying 67 hits and 32 RBIs. He racked up 14 doubles and four home runs while leading the team with 28 walks.

The 15 finalists demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom. The winner will be determined by fans through Facebook voting and will be honored at the 2013 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby
